Sunrise and Sunset Times in Australia

Pick a state or one of the largest cities below. Every place has today's sunrise and sunset, twilight, golden hour, moonrise and a full-year calendar in its own local time.

Australia spans from about 10°S at Cape York to nearly 44°S in southern Tasmania. In the tropical north, day length changes by only about an hour or two over the year, while Hobart's longest summer day is more than six hours longer than its shortest winter day.

The mainland uses three standard time zones: Australian Eastern (UTC+10), Central (UTC+9:30) and Western (UTC+8). Daylight saving time is observed only in New South Wales, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania and South Australia. In 2026 it ends on 5 April and starts again on 4 October. Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not observe it, so in summer Brisbane is an hour behind Sydney despite sharing the same standard time. Remember that the seasons are reversed: the longest day falls around the December solstice and the shortest around June.
