This policy explains what information SunriseAlmanac collects when you use the website, how it is used and the choices you have. We have designed the site to collect as little as possible. You do not need an account to use it.

Advertising

SunriseAlmanac is free and is funded by advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, to limit how often you see an ad and to measure ad performance. If you consent, these technologies may also be used to show personalized ads based on your activity on this and other websites. Where you have not given consent, Google may show non-personalized ads, which rely on general context such as the page you are viewing and your approximate location.

You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads. You can also manage ad personalization in your Google account settings.

Consent banner

When you first visit, a consent banner asks whether you accept personalized advertising and optional analytics. Nothing that requires consent is enabled until you make a choice. Your choice is stored in your browser so the banner does not reappear on every page. To change your decision later, clear the site data for SunriseAlmanac in your browser settings; the banner will appear again on your next visit.

Analytics

We may use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate, such as which pages are popular. It operates in Google's consent mode with analytics storage denied by default. Analytics cookies are set only if you agree to them in the consent banner.

Page counter

Separately, we run a simple first-party page counter on our own server so we know which pages are read. It records only the path of the page requested and does not use cookies. It does not record your IP address, device identifiers or any other information that could identify you.

Server logs

Like nearly all websites, our hosting provider automatically records standard technical information when a page is requested, such as the IP address, browser type, the requested address and the time. These logs are kept by the host for a limited period for security, troubleshooting and abuse prevention. We do not use them to build profiles of visitors.

Information stored in your browser

Apart from advertising and analytics cookies you may accept, the site uses your browser's local storage for only two items:

• Your consent choice from the banner.
• Your preference for 12-hour or 24-hour time.

These values stay on your device and are not sent to us.

Your location

The "use my location" button is optional. Your browser asks for permission only when you click it. Your position is processed in your browser, and only rounded coordinates are sent to our server to find the nearest city in our database. These coordinates are not stored or logged, and we do not track your location at any other time.

Contact by email

If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply and to fix any problem you report. We do not sell or share it, and we do not add it to mailing lists.

Children

The site is a general-audience reference and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, the UK GDPR and the GDPR give you rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict its processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Our legal basis for personalized advertising and analytics is your consent; for security logs it is our legitimate interest in keeping the site running safely. You may also complain to your data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK.

If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as California under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, you may have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. You can decline personalized ads through the consent banner and through Google's ad settings. Residents of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland have similar rights under their national privacy laws.

Because we hold very little information that identifies anyone, in most cases there will be nothing to retrieve. To make a request, email hello@sunrisealmanac.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
