Sunrise and Sunset Calculator

Enter a latitude and longitude, a date and a time zone to get sunrise, sunset, solar noon, day length, the three twilights, golden hour and moonrise for that exact spot, from 1900 to 2100.

Decimal degrees: north and east positive, south and west negative. Example: Sydney is −33.8688, 151.2093.

How the calculator works

The sun's position comes from the formulas in Jean Meeus's Astronomical Algorithms, the same ones behind NOAA's solar calculator. For the chosen local date the calculator follows the sun's altitude from midnight to midnight and finds the exact second it crosses each threshold: −0.833° for sunrise and sunset, −6°, −12° and −18° for the twilights, and +6° and −4° for golden hour. Times are rounded to the nearest minute.

Results assume a flat, sea-level horizon. Mountains, buildings and an unusual atmosphere can move what you actually see by a few minutes. Read the methodology.
