Sunrise and Sunset Times in New Zealand

Pick a region or one of the largest cities below. Every place has today's sunrise and sunset, twilight, golden hour, moonrise and a full-year calendar in its own local time.

New Zealand runs from about 34°S at Cape Reinga to about 47°S on Stewart Island, so the south of the country has markedly longer summer days and shorter winter days than the north. Around the December solstice, sunset in Invercargill comes close to 10 p.m., among the latest anywhere in the six countries we cover.

The main islands use New Zealand Standard Time (UTC+12) and New Zealand Daylight Time (UTC+13) in summer. In 2026, daylight saving ends on 5 April and starts on 27 September. The Chatham Islands, about 800 km east of the mainland, keep their own time zone, 45 minutes ahead of mainland New Zealand all year, and change their clocks on the same dates. Because New Zealand lies close to the International Date Line, it is among the first places in the world to see each new day's sunrise.
